Competitions
Rock the Barn is approved by the World Swing Dance Council as a points registry event. We offer Jack&Jill competitions at the following levels:
Newcomer
If you have never competed before you should enter this division.
Novice
If you have competed before and have less then 16 novice points.
Intermediate
You have at least 16 novice points and less than 30 intermediate points
Advanced/Allstar
For those with at least 30 intermediate points. Depending on the number of participants we may even run separate Advanced and All-Star divisions.
Competition fee: 150 SEK (about 15 Euros)
What is Jack&Jill?
In a Jack&Jill contest you do not register with a partner, and it’s the luck of the draw that determines which partner you get to dance with. In the preliminary rounds you rotate and dance with different partners, everyone is judged indivually. In the finals you are paired up with a partner and judged as a couple.
Jack&Jill competitions are easy going, relaxed competitions that do not require you to dress in formal attire. We are very happy to be the first event in Northern Sweden that has been given the opportunity to run a wsdc-event, and we encourage everyone to take the chance to compete, so we will be able to keep our wsdc-status for many years to come.
Registration for competitions can be done in advance when registering for the Weekend Pass, or on spot up to 2 hours before the competition. But we encourage you to register in advance to make the the preparations easier.

Rock the Barn Switcharoo!
We’re excited to announce that this year we’ll be hosting another fun switching contest at Rock the Barn!You can join for free, but please note we might need to cap the number of contestants for time purposes. Registration will be open at the competition booth on Friday.
This competition falls into the “fun category” (no WSDC points) and is completely free to enter.
We’ll start with qualification rounds in a regular Jack and Jill style, where the best switchers will advance to the semifinals and final.
In the final, you’ll be paired with a partner, and together you’ll compete for free passes to upcoming Umeå events, including Umeå Westie Weekend and next year’s Rock the Barn!

Wooooop, it’s that time of year again! TWO epic camping competitions are upcoming!

- Best Pimped/Decorated Tent
Whether you have a tent, caravan, or camper van at Rock the Barn, you’re invited to join the fun! Let your creativity run wild (some past winning themes include Escape Room, “Rock the Garden”, Harry Potter, Children’s Birthday Party, and “Kräft-fest”/Swedish Traditional Seafood Dinner/Party).

What’s the Tent Crawl?
The Rock the Barn Tent Crawl is a beloved tradition where our pro instructors, led by Chuck Brown, tour all registered tents/camping spots on Friday night (OBS! Not Saturday as usually).
When the jury visits, it’s your chance to dazzle them with your theme, decorations, and activities. While the jury has the final say, we encourage everyone to open their tents to fellow festival-goers. The Tent Crawl champion of 2024 will win two free tickets to Rock the Barn 2025.
What’s Best Pimped/Decorated Tent?
This year, we’re excited to bring back the “Best Pimped/Decorated Tent” competition in a fresh new format. Go all out, decorate, pimp, and be as creative as you like with your tent without needing to participate in the Tent Crawl (or compete in both!). The winner is decided by festival attendees who will vote for their favorite tent. Please note that at least 15 votes are needed for a winner to be declared, so remember to vote!
The winning tent will receive one free ticket to Rock the Barn 2025.
You can choose how many people contribute; you don’t have to stay at the camping spot you compete with. Please note that the number of free tickets the winners receive is the same regardless of the number of contributors.
